Procedure

Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction

The latest technique is known as Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction (UAL).

As with the traditional tumescent technique, a weak anesthetic solution is injected into the tissues marked for reduction. UAL uses sound waves to "melt" unwanted fat. UAL is used to enhance results of traditional liposuction, providing a smoother, overall result.

The best candidates for liposuction are healthy men and women with good skin elasticity and realistic expectations for liposuction. "Realistic" means that improvement, not perfection, is the goal. Your age, weight, skin elasticity and hormonal influences are factors in determining the overall outcome of the procedure. Dimple skin or cellulite will not benefit from UAL alone. A combination treatment of UAL and Endermologie will reduce the appearance of cellulite. Women who experience a loss of elasticity in the abdominal region due to weight loss or pregnancy, are usually good candidates for a combination of Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction and Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck).

During this procedure the abdominal region is liposuctioned first, then a portion of the excess abdominal skin is removed through a bikini line incision, leaving the abdominal region tighter and flatter. If your goals are realistic in enhancing your overall body shape, then you are a good candidate! Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction can enhance the appearance of men and women of all ages, while boosting self-esteem. The procedure is not meant to replace good eating and exercise habits, or to counter obesity. It can, however, offer help to remove unwanted fatty deposits in many areas of the body. The recovery time is rather short for UAL. Most patients return to work in about 5-6 days. If a combination of UAL and tummy tuck is performed, the recovery time is about 14-21 days. Many patients describe a feeling of soreness and achiness following the UAL procedure.

Ultrasonic liposuction is especially useful for men in the areas of fibrous fat such as the loin and back. Many surgeons feel it may be the treatment of choice for gynecomastia.(large breasts in men). Today more men then ever are coming for cosmetic surgery. The reasons for this are complex. It probably reflects an increased awareness of cosmetic surgery and a growth in decision making by men in health care issues. In the past it was known that almost all decisions about health care were made by women. An old joke was that if a man needed a urologist he asked his wife who to go to and she would ask her gynecologist! Times have changed. Men now take increasing responsibility for their own choices in health care and one aspect of this is the growth in cosmetic surgery. Another stimulus is the intense competition in the business world. There is often a perception, correct or not, that an older person is less up to date and efficient. In an effort to remain young looking, many men have turned to cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery in men uses many of the same procedures as in women. However, because of the composition of a man's body there are many technical differences. For example, the skin in men is thicker and in the facial area contains hair. This means the blood supply is greater. The result is a greater risk of bleeding but good healing. In general, men tend to be less happy with the results of cosmetic surgery than women. There are some problems and operations which are special for men. These include gynecomastia (large breasts), penile surgery and hair transplantation. Still, in most cases the surgery is a modifcation of the standard cosmetic operations.
