Several years ago European physicians,
primarily in France, developed a technique for body fat removal
through small incisions that are unnoticeable when carefully
placed. This technique was developed and presented by the French
as revolutionary--not only for its concept, but also for its
remarkable results and absence of side effects. The procedure
captured the imagination of physicians and surgeons throughout
the world.
Liposuction is an improved technique
for body contouring which offers good cosmetic results, significantly
fewer risks for the patient, imperceptible scars, and infrequent
post-operative complications. The modern technique of liposuction
was developed in the late 1970s and early 1980s by two French
doctors, doctor Gerald Illouz and doctor Pierre Fournier. The
pair were responsible for the refinement of the instruments
and the surgery itself. Liposuction has been performed in the
U.S. since 1978. In 1983, Illouz and Fournier arrived in the
United States to introduce their technique to American surgeons.
During the past decade liposuction, which is also known as "lipoplasty"
or "suction lipectomy," has benefited from several
new refinements like those of doctors Illouz and Fournier. Today,
there tumescent technique, the ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty
(UAL), and the super-wet technique, are helping many plastic
surgeons to provide selected patients with more precise results
and quicker recovery times.
